Biography

Silvia Berger specializes in Latin American literature and culture. She was born and raised in Argentina, where she received a master's in music and music education. She completed her master's and doctorate in Hispanic literatures and linguistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with a concentration in prose fiction and literary theory.

Berger's scholarly interests have focused on issues of memory in literature and art in the Southern Cone, with special attention to Jewish writers and artists. Her recent works on collective and collected memory, both published and presented at learned societies conferences, concentrate on cultural artifacts, literary or otherwise, that operate at the intersections of memory and history. She is presently representations of nostalgia and on the nature of urban landscapes in works of literature, film and visual arts.
