Biography

Lou Ann Bierwert is the instruments and techniques instructor and technical director of the Center for Molecular Biology at Smith College. She received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Smith and was a research associate for more than two decades at Smith in molecular-based projects in parasitology and biomechanical engineering. Year round, she enjoys passing on her expertise in molecular techniques. During the academic year, she aids both undergraduate researchers as well as students engaged in course-based research. In the summer, she is involved in Smith's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship as well as in the Summer Science and Engineering Program, where she has taught the course Your Genes, Your Chromosomes for more than 10 years.

Teaching Science to High School Students

For the last decade, Lou Ann Bierwert has taught Smith students how to teach science to high school students through the Interterm High School Science Teaching Internship.
